Postby Chuey » Sat Dec 06, 2008 4:50 pm

The NSider Community is a Nintendo Gaming forum like many others, and although the discussion can vary and vary, I’d like a few things to be known and remembered. Please remember to read through this list of policies to remember how to stay out of trouble.

You can post messages several discussion forums, and we ask that you follow their particular discussion theme, but we also want you to keep in mind of the following no-nos:

•Spamming: Spam is often depicted as “Stupid Pointless Annoying Messages“. When you post off-topic or something barely connected to the topic‘s theme, that is considered spam. It isn’t regarded positively, but sometimes spamming occurs accidentally, where pressing the submit button several times can make multiple copies of the post go out.

•Flaming: Flaming is the act of insulting someone, usually heavily, and it is considered awful among the internet. Heated discussions usually turn to flame wars, where insults are thrown back and forth, and these are to be refrained upon. Maybe you can express something a little angrily, but just think about what you type. No need to say anything mean… or extremely mean.

•Bashing: Bashing is a step above flaming. When you negatively remark about something, possibly without reason, you’re bashing someone. Normally this process of bashing is used against a game, a company, or something that won’t bring too much trouble besides possible arguments among others, but if you’re to start insulting a broad topic to a high degree, you’re stepping over lines with bashing.

•Trolling: Trolling is the act of instigating irritated behavior, which is achieved by committing actions or acting with certain behaviors that will only cause annoyance or anger. Those who spam on purpose, begin a conversation with comments that are going to bring offense for the heck of it, are trolling. Away, you trolls!

•Bumping: When topics grow old, users may reply to them with a post that has little to do with the thread, all to bring the topic back to the top of a board. This will bring the topic plenty of attention, possibly earning more posts. This is usually not a favorable act, but if the reply is useful and/or even begins another conversation that isn’t filled with spam or pointlessness, there will be no trouble. Try to avoid “bumping” threads older than 4 weeks old. Bump is often depicted as “Bring Up My Post”.

•Repetitive Posting: At times, users will make multiple posts in a row intentionally, getting new ideas to post about. Though we encourage posting, we ask you edit new thoughts into an old post until a new response is added or contact someone through a private message to continue discussing the interest-worthy concept. Repetitious posting will usually only be found acceptable if a grand amount of time occurs, but it’s not too often a case to worry about.

•Language: Using derogatory language is often discouraged. “Minor swears” may not be censored, but much stronger words are blocked from usage. This also includes a few racial slurs. This site, although not used by drastically young members, is somewhat designed so they may use the site safely. It is asked of users to use respectful vocabulary. Intentional misspellings will also be of little favor, so don’t bother. Just use nice words! Even if it sounds lame….

•Content: NSC is designed for viewing by anyone, and this would not include sexual themes or very-graphic images. Any content that should only be viewed by someone over the age of 18 is not permitted here. If you wish to view such content, please go to the other corner of the internet. I hear it’s a nice place, full of experiences to have. Just… don’t have them here.

•Racism: Remarks that are of harmful value indicating to race are absolutely prohibited and will result in an immediate ban. Regardless your views on other races it is not allowed to be displayed in public posting or private messaging. If you make use of any slurs, they shall be blocked, as a few already are.

•Political Discussion: Political discussion is a hot theme for debate, and are common around elections. As a warning, watch your posts more especially around such topics as it is very easy for biases, opinions, and ideas to create arguments and problems. Avoid disagreement or see that discussion topic locked.

•Religion: Religion is allowed to be discussed, but it is a potential source for flame wars; they’ve happened before. Be careful with these discussions and everything will be fine. Don’t start a fight, everyone is allowed to have their own views on everything.

With a profile you can take a powerful step in the community. However, we’d like for you to keep the following in mind:

•Signature: Signatures are a cool feature of forums, and they appear beneath your posts. It is asked that your signature does not contain any flash content, material that will cause a pop-up, redirect, or any virus-connected garbage. Also, if signatures are too lengthy horizontally or more rarely, vertically, they will be tweaked to shorten the width or again, more rarely, height of a page.

•Profile: You are able to have a biography description that describes you and only you! Feel free to fill this out with appropriate information about yourself. You may not post information about others that is harmful or unwanted unless you are given straight consent from the user. Other than that, go crazy with this feature!

•Online Status: We ask you do not toggle your settings to mark you hidden from the online user list. Staff members will still know if you’re online, and being online is very helpful for various situations. Cut the stealth, there should be no need to hide anyway.

•Avatar: Avatars have a width and height dimension of 130 by 130 pixels. Again, no offensive material please.

There are many other things that the staff would like users to have recognized. Here they are:

•Advertising: Forums can have problems with advertising, where users register to promote their own site and do nothing else. If you’d like to promote a website of yours, keep a link in your profile description or your signature; no advertisement posting! Don’t harass others through private messages or profile comments in regard to other websites unless they wish to know an address. Showing off a cool site in general’s fine, but if you’re here for your own gain, you can assume the staff of NSC want this forum to have its own gain too.

•Alternate Accounts: A user is only permitted one account. If there is a serious issue with your account and you cannot access it, making another account to contact staff is alright. But, sometimes accounts are made for malicious purposes, which are to bypass a banning or cause further trouble. If you have a sibling that shares your Internet Protocol address, let the staff know so no trouble is unintentionally stirred. Otherwise, we’ll think you’re up to no good. Sometimes a staff member will make a new account, but this is a special case as it is for an official NSC event or update.

•Honesty: When you register, it is asked you use your real information. The staff cannot view this information, and the staff cannot access the database to learn such info. You do not need to enter your real information, but the community of NSC is small. There’s bound to be little trouble here if you use your real information. Also, speaking of the community, lying about yourself will only create problems at some point. Trust the site admin on this one.

There are also some final notes we’d like all users to read:

•Banning: When policies are broken, a user may become banned. Normally only an account is blocked for a period of time, all dependant on what was done to earn the ban. If such serious actions were performed, the Internet Protocol address used by the user to access NSC will be blocked. Bans are rarely made, especially in a community as small as this, but it’s not an impossibility.

•Staff: The staff of NSC are around to help keep the site in good manner. There are four administrators for the site; Storm39, GigaMetroid99, Calico_Lover, and the site creator, Chuey. Any of the four may remove, edit, move, or lock messages and topics for various reasons. Any of the four may also ban, but that’s not a likely matter to occur. Only Chuey may delete accounts, but this would only really happen for alternate accounts. These guys are the ones to talk to about any issues as they are trustworthy and hold the power to make right.

The NSider Community has 3 moderators and 2 administrators who come on NSC to make sure everything is going smoothly. They can remove, edit, and move posts as well as lock topics from discussion. Administrators may use the Administration Control Panel for various reasons however they may ban users if necessary. Only the Site Admin, Chuey, may delete users’ accounts permanently although this is rarely looked to as a necessary action. Sometimes administrators will search accounts for reasons that are not discussed with the public and searches are planned and not jumped into (meaning Chuey must be consulted and must agree to the search when requested if appropriate and necessary), although this is very rare. But as long as you follow the rules there should be no concern. The password will be changed in that situation, so you will have to use the Password Reset to get it back. If your original password won’t let you online and your behavior hasn’t been its brightest, please wait at least 20 minutes before getting a new password as a search might be underway (or you just can’t enter the right password).

•Safety: If a user does any action that threatens our website, the law in an illegal way among appropriate circumstances, or the intellectual property of anyone, this policy shall be shattered, and that is one of the worst possible actions. Anyone who breaks the safety of anyone will be blocked from the site and may be searched, which involves the altering of their password and maybe even their email so they may not get on. You may change your password after the staff modifies it, but if you realize you’re being searched, please keep out, even if you did nothing wrong. If your email is altered at any point, in relation to a search or not, send an email to Chuey about the matter

•Disclaimer: The staff of NSC hold the right to make actions not listed here when seen appropriate. It’s as simple as that.

Please follow the policies so we all can have a nice time here on NSC. If you have any concerns, please private message Chuey. We do uphold the right to not alert you of changes to this policy although a notice will most likely be posted.
