The First NSC RP: Map Revamp

Postby Chuey » Thu Oct 01, 2009 6:18 am

So, lately I've been working on a project for unknown reasons. The reasons shall remain unexplained, but the project was to fully revamp the old NSC RP map. There are bits of it I'm not crazy for, but overall I'm impressed with my own work, though Star's gonna be all, "U DID NICEER COLORING BUT IT STIL SUCK." NS:(

The Original; December 08

Very simplistic. But almost a year later...

The New Version; September 09/October 09

The mountain was a pain. A real pain. I might try to incorporate a shadow, but it's gonna be pretty difficult. There's also a midpoint of the island (look near the city; forgot name!!) that needs something there. Maybe a series of rocks or even trees, but both will require more effort. The Bulletin Board has real bulletins named along it; can you read them? SPAM! has been unjailed and a national headquarters for it is set-up, and Stormbolt City is denoted by dark clouds. The Nintendo buildings never had a sense of a doorway, so those big doors are for so; the Pikachu one looks extremely creepy with doing so. I also JUST noticed some error with the water and trees near the mountain. Need to fix some water coloring BEHIND the trees.

I just wanted to share, feel free to give thoughts. But no U DID NICEER COLORING BUT IT STIL SUCK. NS:(

Looks a lot better than the original, but it's got too much of a copy/paste effect.

You made 1 tree and pasted it everywhere. You made 1 Tombstone and pasted it all in one spot, ect.

Hmm... oh, I see what you mean. Well, any thoughts of improving that? 0.o It's supposed to be like that for the Tombstone Hall because, well, I can't see five different kinds of tombstones fitting into one spot so cleverly unless it's simple. As for trees... I can see that as the main target of copy/paste, which it kind of was, but it would look too empty without them. Then again, I didn't get around to adding more new stuff as I wanted, so I could probably end up eliminating a fine deal of trees.

Also, the "bland coloring" like with the outer ocean and anywhere grassy is to keep it simple as this map is soon due to expand. Just to put that out there.

Edit: Added onto first paragraph.

There is improvement for sure, but one complain of mine.. the shading. Ugh, I think of this every time I see your work. Try adding a real light source and focusing the shading like that instead of making every. single. thing. go from dark at the bottom to light at the top. And of course the copypasta.

Yeah, I can see that too. .-. I go light to dark though based on the thought of shadow, but bleh. I do that for everything. I could restart the project, but I don't know. Just fixing tiny things isn't quite easy at a fine perspective.

It kind of looks kind of like a upgrade like upgrading from a NES to an early Genesis game, maybe.
