Disk Defragmenter (AB LOOK!)

Postby Chuey » Wed Dec 30, 2009 8:37 am

I have a question mainly for AB, but maybe someone else could benefit from it. Does Disk Defragmentation eat up the hard drive? A friend said a defragmentation should not be done very often at all, where once a month is considered often, as it slowly tires the hard drive. I had a hard drive failure (my dad's friend successfully saved all our stuff), and now I'm wondering if it was all my fault because those pesky red lines must not exist...

Time to stop defragmentating....

From my knowledge, disk defragmentation does NOT do this at all. Again, I could be wrong, but based on what I know, this is not the case.

A disk defragmenter looks for file fragments that are scattered throughout your hard drive (we are constantly moving, deleting, and using files). Basically, it removes those useless fragments that are not needed, thus making your hard drive run faster. It is hard on your CPU and hard drive, but it should not cause hard drive failure.

Well, until I can find a confirmed answer, I'll leave defragmenter alone.
